Description

UCL Medical School in collaboration with University of Aberdeen School of Medicine and Dentistry, Association for the Study of Medical Education (ASME) and the Medical Schools Council (MSC) are hosting a one day workshop to reflect and debate medical education research and REF 2014.

The aims of ‘REF 2020: Raising Aspirations for Medical Education Research’ are:

  • To consider how best to address the tensions between education delivery and producing internationally-excellent medical education research (MER) in the UK
  • To stimulate discussion on effective approaches to developing and sustaining thriving, stimulating, and supportive MER environments
  • To debate how UK medical schools can best focus their MER activities to ensure world-leading research, innovation and impact forResearch Excellence Framework (REF) 2020

We are extremely fortunate to have UCL President & Provost Professor Michael Arthur, Professor Andrew Pollard, Professor Alison Fuller and Professor Jennifer Cleland as keynote speakers. Prof Michael Arthur has championed research-led education since becoming Provost at UCL. Prof Pollard chaired the Education Sub-panel for 2014 on behalf of UK Higher Education Funding Councils. Professor Fuller led the Institute of Education’s REF submission. Professor Cleland chairs the only International Research Board (IRB) in the field.

The event will involve a mixture of keynote addresses and small group workshops (allocated on the day).
